Dealing with Civil Protest

DCP Level 1

Enroll (Free)

How can campus safety officers deal effectively with incidences of campus civil rights protests? A civil protest/disturbance will usually take the form of an organized public demonstration of disapproval with an action, idea or incident. The civil protest/disturbance does not necessarily have to be from any action taken by any institution. Most of the time, protests are of peaceful means and of non-destructive or non-obstructive nature. It should be the policy of institutions to uphold the rights of all individuals, which includes the right to free speech and the right to peaceably assemble on public property. These rights will not be interfered with, provided that the expressive activity does not disrupt the educational mission or involve substantial disorder and/or invasion of the rights of others
